The Studio

Monette Interiors is a full-service interior design firm, led by Colette Clark of Nevada City, California. Situated in the Sierra Foothills, we seek to provide a design experience that connects families to their home and the uniquely beautiful place we live. We serve our community in the foothills, as well as the surrounding areas of Lake Tahoe and Sacramento.

We strive to create homes that reflect the people within it, and value a considered and thoughtful approach to design. Pattern, color, textiles, and art lead our process. We believe in integrating family heirlooms where possible, supporting local makers, sourcing vintage and antiques, and utilizing our builders and local trades.

With a background in high end residential design firms in San Francisco since the early aughts, we bring our expertise in design process and execution, product sourcing, and an innate understanding and love of historical and vintage art and design.

About Colette

Colette holds a B.S. from Northwestern University, where she studied Theatre and Music. The experience of creating theatre scenes for the stage drew on her deep interest in spaces and the impact of design on how we live- an interest that was nurtured from an early age growing up in a family of visual artists.  She continued her education studying interior design at UC Berkeley Extension before embarking on a career with several high end residential firms in San Francisco, most notably, Jay Jeffers.

Beyond education, it is the culture of art and design intrinsic to Colette’s upbringing, that intuitively informs her design practice. In tandem with interior design, she continues her own artistic explorations through pattern making, music, and improvisational quilting. All of these pursuits have combined to create a focus on visual storytelling that goes far beyond fabric and forms, and provide inspiration and excitement in her work.

Monette Interiors takes the family name passed down from her grandmother, and reflects her love of family, art, and home. Colette is particularly interested in the history and meaning of a home and the objects within it. She is drawn to the dichotomy of imperfect refinement, the delight of unexpected materials and objects, the inclusion of personal heirlooms, and the belief that a beautiful home comes from the messy lives we live in them.
